A. J. Dorr Announces Bid for Re-Election
Constable A. J. Dorr, with gratitude for all the support he has received in the past, announces his bid for re-election in the 2012 Republican Primary to the office of Constable Precinct 1.
When he took office, one of his priorities was to operate an efficient and effective department. Constable Dorr feels this has been accomplished by consistently serving an average of 1200 civil writs, citations, and subpoenas each month as well as 150 Class C criminal warrants and according to a cost analysis performed by the County Auditors office, was the most efficient Law Enforcement Agency in Fort Bend County.
Constable Dorr’s staff consists of 23 Deputies and 3 Clerks; four are former Police Chiefs and one is a former Constable. Fourteen of these Deputies have Master Peace Officer Licenses and seven have Advanced Peace Officers Licenses. One Deputy has a Masters Degree in Education, five Deputies have Bachelors Degrees, and five Deputies have Associate Degrees. Constable Dorr feels that his department is one that the citizens of Precinct One can have pride and confidence in and call with any problem.
One of Constable Dorr’s priorities is to be active and give back to the community that he serves. He has accomplished this by serving as both Director and former President of the Fort Bend County Fair, Director and 2-time President of the Needville Youth Fair, and as Director of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. He is an active member of the American Legion, Post #350. Constable Dorr is an Honorary Chapter Member of the Needville FFA. He is also active in the Senior Citizens Organization and Immanuel United Church of Christ. He serves on the Church Consistory and is the Head Usher. He also belongs to a number of other charitable organizations.
After graduating from Needville High School, Constable Dorr served four years in the United States Marine Corps where he was meritoriously promoted to the ranks of Private First Class, Lance Corporal, Corporal, and then Sergeant in less than three years. After leaving the Marine Corps, he attended Sam Houston State University and received a Bachelors Degree in Law Enforcement and Police Science in only three years.
He began his career in law enforcement with the Houston Police department in 1977 where he obtained a vast amount of knowledge working in the patrol and vice divisions. In 1986, Needville called him back home to become their Chief of Police where he served for over ten years until he was elected as Constable of Precinct 1.
Constable Dorr and his wife, Sandra, live in Needville. They have 2 daughters, Andrea and Alexis, a son Michael and his wife Stephanie and three grandchildren; Kelton, Keylan, and Audrey. Constable Dorr and Sandra are members of St. Michaels Catholic Church & Immanuel United Church of Christ.
Constable Dorr says, "My office has always had an open door policy to listen to and meet the needs of the citizens of not only Precinct 1, but all of Fort Bend County. I plan to continue the efficient and effective service to the public, utilizing the best trained and equiped staff possible, I never forget or fail to appreciate the trust and support the voters have shown in me since being elected Constable."
